Inspired by Victorian art, Gothic architecture and American jazz, Matsuda creates one-of-a-kind eyewear that embodies avant-garde design rooted in cultural heritage. The fashion house constantly seeks innovative techniques to bring its ideas to life. Skilled craftsmen and architects work exclusively in the renowned eyewear workshops of Sabae, Japan, where every hinge, temple and detail is carefully considered and uniquely designed for each Matsuda eyewear collection. From innovative pince-nez bridges to authentic side shields, Matsuda sunglasses and optical frames pay homage to the brand's heritage while constantly redefining it for the future.

The Matsuda brand skillfully combines traditional Japanese fashion with avant-garde design, resulting in playfully innovative eyewear with a touch of European romance. With a stunning collection of sunglasses and optical frames handcrafted from the world's finest materials such as titanium, stainless steel, sterling silver, 18k solid gold and Japanese acetate, Matsuda offers an unparalleled selection. The brand's skilled artisans transform raw materials into refined works of art, using techniques that few other craftsmen would dare to attempt, always prioritizing quality over quantity. The creation of a Matsuda frame requires more than 250 steps, carried out by skilled architects who have honed their craft for generations. This meticulous process results in intricately detailed frames with unmatched durability and strength.

Matsuda acetate frames feature unique nose pieces that are individually molded to ensure a perfect fit for the wearer. Prior to use, the Japanese acetate is aged for three months and then polished using a combination of tumbling and hand polishing techniques. Many Matsuda frames are plated with 22.5k gold, ruthenium, palladium, or other precious metals using an electroplating process. In this process, an electric current is passed through the frames, depositing the fine metals onto the surface. Each pair is meticulously hand-finished by professional polishers, resulting in a remarkably soft feel and a sculpted design built to last a lifetime. One of the most distinctive features of Matsuda eyewear is the intricate engravings that adorn the wide rims, temples and bridges. Only two master engravers remain in the city of Sabae, one of whom works exclusively for Matsuda.

Matsuda offers three distinct lines of eyewear: the Essential Collection showcases innovative designs crafted from stainless steel, pure titanium, and premium Japanese acetate, while the Heritage Collection reintroduces classic styles in limited editions. In addition, the Precious Collection features frames crafted from opulent materials such as solid 18K gold, hand-engraved sterling silver, and genuine buffalo horn. With meticulous craftsmanship, Matsuda sunglasses and optical frames truly embody the pinnacle of luxury eyewear.
